No one warns you, when you open up a business, how hard it will be. We live in America. Open up that business. Go ahead. It's great. You get to control your own schedule. Be your own Boss. Wrong… So wrong. When you open a small business it's like getting knocked off the monkey bars and falling flat on your back, getting the wind knocked out of your lungs and then your stood up and told, “you got this, just brush it off.”
Don't get me wrong, building this company has been one of the best things I have ever done. But in the beginning, it is like learning a new language and you have just been dropped off in a foreign land. It took me a minute to get my bearings, but over time I learned from my mistakes (most of the time) and I improved little by little.
The biggest lesson I have learned is to not take things so PERSONALLY. If a client were to tell me about anything wrong with their cleaning, I felt like I just failed at life. I took it so hard and personally because I literally gave it my all. And sometimes my all wasn't enough. With time and maturity, I learned how to take client feedback and create a new sharpening stone. With each new sharpening stone, I could little by little shave down my insecurities and turn them into something more. Skill… skills that are razor sharp. What a perspective shift.
You know that song…?
🎵 I get knocked down
But I get up again
You're never going to keep me down…
…
🎵 I get knocked down
But I get up again
You're never going to keep me down…
…
