In the beginning, I thought, “If I were the best cleaner then I would surely get all the best and most loyal client base.” I quickly realized that being in a service based industry, it is so much more than doing a great cleaning job. I had to connect with the client, hear their story and figure out why they were in need of the cleaning at this particular moment in time. What is causing them to outsource the cleaning? Why can't they or why wont they do it themselves? Then, I had to evaluate if I were the solution to their problem.
I quickly learned that people have so much going on in their lives. The cleaning of their own home is stealing their valuable time away from doing the things they either want, need or are physically unable to do. I have heard and seen it all by now:
The mom who had a health scare and is now incapable of cleaning.
The family with a two income household with 3 pets and 4 children and they “can't keep up”.
The single parent working 3 jobs.
The grandma who has full custody of her grandchildren and grandpup.
The stay-at-home mom who also homeschools her 4 kids.
The doctor who works overnight, busy saving lives in the ER, is too exhausted to clean.
To summarize - TIME and PHYSICAL LIMITATIONS.
This industry is truly humbling. When you hear other peoples stories and see what they are currently going through, or what they have been through, it makes you self-reflect often. I give thanks to God often for the ability to serve others. I have my health, strength and learned skills which provide relief for my clients. I can truly be a servant of God. This company, I strongly believe, was my calling.
